Cole Named Basketball Captain

In a vote of his teammates, Cole was named one of two co-captains for the South Middle School Eighth grade basketball team. We are pretty proud of him being recognized by his teammates. He isn't very vocal, but he plays hard and is a great leader by example. The season starts the first week of January.

All-State Honors For Brad

Brad All-State Honors
Last year as a sophomore Brad was named all-state honorable mention by the Topeka Capital Journal. This year, he has earned all-state first-team honors as a defensive back by both the Topeka Capital Journal and the Wichita Eagle (Waiting on the Kansas City Star).

Both papers also list a top-11 team (best 11 players in the state regardless of position or class) and he was named second team on both lists. He was the only junior on the first, second or third teams by the Wichita Eagle and the only junior on the TCJ's first or second team (a junior made their third team).

Brad All-Sunflower League Honors
Brad earned all-conference first-team honors as a quarterback AND as a defensive back this season. He was honorable mention as a quarterback last year. In addition the Sunflower League blog named him the league's offensive player of the year.

Rough Night For Lions, Brad Hurt

LHS had a rough night in its second district game falling 21-3 vs. Olathe Northwest. Brad suffered a game-ending injury on the second possession. He has a high ankle sprain, but wants to return for this week's game at Free State. LHS needs a win and an Olathe Northwest loss to make the playoffs.

LHS Opens District Play With Big Win

Lawrence High defeated Olathe North in the first round of district play. ON has played in the state championship game each of the last two years, so the 28-19 victory was huge. Brad threw three touchdowns to three different receivers, ran 30 yards for another score and had seven tackles and two passes broken up on defense.

Video News Piece on Brad

Our local television station (channel 6, Lawrence) did a nice job on a video news piece on Brad. His coach had some great comments.

LHS Improves To 4-2 Before District Play

Brad was responsible for all six of Lawrence's touchdowns in its win against Shawnee Mission South. He had incredible blocking on his kickoff return for a score and then made some nice long runs on broken plays for scores of 20 and 27 yards.

LHS Football Wins Easily Friday

Two stories on the Lawrence High School football 31-0 victory against Shawnee Mission East Friday. The blockers story talks about Brad and has some quotes. I had Brad with nine rushes for 193 yards and touchdown runs of 54 and 72. He was also 9-18 passing for 187 yards and a 56-yard touchdown. No interceptions.

LHS Wins, But Loses Top Running Back For Season

Lawrence High improved its record to 2-2 with a 35-13 win at Leavenworth. Brad was 17 of 23 passing for 243 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran six times for 16 yards. However the night was sad as running back Charles Jackson suffered a fracture in his leg and requires surgery. He is out for the season. He is a great kid and we drove him home after he was released from the Leavenworth Hospital.

Failed Two-Point Conversion Has Lions Fall Short

A great comeback by Lawrence High fell short to highly-ranked Olathe East Friday night. Down 21-14 with 1:15 left in the game and no timeouts, LHS drove 81 yards for a touchdown with :12 left in the game. A failed two-point conversion had the Lions on the short end, losing 21-20. Brad ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 187 yards and the other score. Such a great game.

Cole Makes Big Plays In His Second Game

In South's 44-18 win at Atchison, Cole produced some big plays. He scored on an 11-yard run while playing running back, cutting through the left side, putting on a move and racing to the left corner of the end zone. Later he scored on a two-point conversion. He also returned a punt 36 yards, in which he ran approximately 70 yards zig-zagging across the field.

His 51-yard touchdown run was called back due to an illegal formation, but was pretty impressive down the right sideline. He also made three tackles and forced a fumble from his safety position.

He is one of the littlest players out there, but he plays as hard as anybody. Four more games left.

Mr. Throwback

On the front page of the Lawrence Journal World sports section Thursday was a feature on Brad.

Lawrence Falls To No. 4 Olathe South

It was No. 9 Lawrence at No. 4 Olathe South Friday night. Both teams scored on four of their first five possessions in the first half, but OS was tough to stop and went on to defeat LHS 33-22. Brad threw for 304 yards, but tossed two interceptions in the red zone (inside the opponents' 20-yard line) which prevented scores. Fun game though.

LHS Wins Season Opener 35-12 vs. Shawnee Mission West

Lawrence High opened the 2011 season with a 35-12 victory against Shawnee Mission West Friday night. Brad passed for 192 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 119 yards and two more scores. Great team effort with so many guys making big plays offensively and defensively. Should get tougher the next two weeks, playing consecutive games against top-10 teams in the state.

Lawrence High Mom's Camp

On Saturday, August 20, Lisa participated in the Lawrence High School football Mom's Camp with Bradley. It was fun for all of the kids and the moms. It was really fun to watch. They all went through some warmups, drills for their son's positions and then ran some plays. Lisa was very confident this year after being a little timid last season.

Who Blew Up The Cloud?

It looks like someone blew up the clouds in the sky above Lawrence on August 19 and this is what happened. The whole sky looked like this in every direction.

That night we had a huge storm and our neighbor's tree cracked in half - with the one half on our lawn.
